For the second consecutive year, UNICON continued our support for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women initiative. Go Red For Women is a national event focused on educating women about the danger of heart disease, and how they can reduce the impact of heart disease in their lives. Locally, UNICON joined with other organizations to attend educational breakout sessions, as well as to raise funding to help promote this worthwhile cause.

TechColumbus Innovation Award Semi-Finalist
UNICON and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) were recently named as semi-finalists for TechColumbus’ Innovation Awards Outstanding Technology Team for 2009. UNICON and the EPA Division of Air Pollution Control and the Information Technology Services team successfully implemented a new enterprise level web application to administer the EPA’s air pollution permitting program for the Ohio. This new system replaced seven separate legacy system and significantly increased the efficiency and effectiveness of EPA permitting process, and is considered to be one of the most advanced permitting systems in the country.
Winners and finalists for TechColumbus’s Innovation Awards will be presented on February 4, 2010 at the Innovation Awards Banquet in the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

UNICON named SCOMSDC MBE of the Year
UNICON was recently honored as the Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) of the Year for 2009 by the South Central Ohio Minority Supplier Development Council (SCOMSDC). UNICON was selected as the Class III category winner, which consisted of other MBE companies in the South-Central Ohio area with revenues between $10 million and $50 million. This latest recognition came at the SCOMSDC’s Annual Awards Gala in Cincinnati, Ohio. This award recognizes UNICON’s continued commitment to provide strategic IT consulting and staffing services to assist our clients in meeting their business objectives.

2010 WELD Women You Should Know Calendar
For the sixth consecutive year, the Ohio chapter of Women for Economic and Leadership Development (WELD) honored 12 women making a big difference in business in central Ohio by showcasing them and their accomplishments in a beautiful calendar. Stop the Leaks
UNICON’s technical consultant, Nels Hoenig, published an article titled “Stop the Leaks” in the October 2009 issue of Software Test and Performance Magazine. In the article, Nels discusses the challenges of developing new interfaces to legacy systems, and identifies some key considerations and test points to give projects a better chance of success.
